Oh, I've read this twice now and it just makes me so unbelievably happy. Re: your previous comment of fen heading off to sunnier fandoms--I'm never going to be one of them. *This*, this story epitomizes what Clark and Lex are all about for me. They're so passionate and consumed by one another, even if one of them isn't even certain of the origination or the circumstances of it at all. I've always liked the analogy of two puzzle pieces that no one would have ever thought to put together and yet they just *fit* in relation to the two of them.
I can make of the end whatever I wish, and you did a beautiful job of keeping it open ended. Lex can either go on and do Very Bad Things or he can help rope Clark in and work on ridding themselves of Jor-El's hold. The terrific thing is that either version is perfectly plausible and I'm satisfied with either ending working well within the context of the story.
