I do indeed think that Lex perceives Clark as being colder than he is, but I can't put that in the story without taking away some of the detail and character thought-process that makes it Lex's story and not mine, if that makes any sense.

yes, I think it's a huge deal to Clark, but Lex's own investment in his own packaged fantasy about Clark means he'll miss the import of some of what's really happening.
