random + ohmygodNYC!!!!!

Frozen Bubble is cute, fun, addictive, and has penguins, albeit blobular in form.

Mr. Glove is out of town for basically the next month.

I still have painting to do.

Went to the comic book store and got the new Optic Nerve (it's been two years!!!!!!!), the 1st and 2nd issues of the Superman Secret Identity series, and the compiled Batman: Year One. The attractive, socially non-inept clerk was very nice to me and will order me anything I want1, and spent a few pleasant minutes with me name-dropping titles and artists. It is also a used music/movie store, so it's one of my favorite places to waste time. I think they are hiring, but I really can't count on myself to be organized enough to even do a low-pressure retail job on anything like a schedule.

Oh! Kicky got into the New York Burlesque Festival, which means I am going to go to NYC in May! I can't be 100% on which dates yet, but it will be around the weekend that is the 14th/15th/16th and perhaps a day or two on either side of that. So: who do I get to meet (or, in [livejournal.com profile] pun's case, be kicked by), and who wants to come watch the nearly-naked ladies with me? I am going to want to see many museums in the daylight hours. The likelihood that I can go to Sigerson Morrison and spend thousands of dollars on shoes is basically nil, so I guess I'll stick to museums ;) Mr. G used to spend quite a bit of time in the city, but that all stopped about a dozen years ago. So, while he knows the landscape and how to get around, all of his restaurant references are completely out of date. I am clearly going to have to do a ton of research (which I love to do). Yay!

I always thought I'd live in New York, and I'm almost 382 and I've never even been there. Well, at least I'm going now.

1 Which I realize they'll do for anyone, but he made a special point of telling me they would/could, possibly because I am the only unaccompanied female I've ever seen in the place and I am both sexy and a geek.

2 The birthday timer goes off in...17 days, just in case you are composing an opera in my honor.

Yeah, I just saw Optic Nerve at a bookstore last Saturday, and I was shocked! #3 is the only single issue I have, and it just kills me, because it's got the balance between utter loneliness and the little shards of hope/humor calibrated right, at least for me. The first 3 stories in the 'Summer Blonde' collection veer too far into alienation for me, although the last story is great, and the last page is wordless and too beautiful. Have you read that one? If not, ignore the above!

I LOVE 'Year One'. I prefer a nobler vision/version of the Bat. I'm not saying he's not fucked up. He's totally fucked up! But there's compassion in him, too. And I love kick ass, tough and rough Selina Kyle.

Have fun with all yr new goodies!

I knew I forgot something! Have you seen the 'Bizarro Comics' collection? It is a bunch of irreverent riffs on the DC universe (lots of Supes/Bats), by a bunch of different artists, and it is awesome. I think ya'd love it.
