SV rec: Coming Up Close by kieyra
Jan. 17th, 2004 11:47 pmThing the First: If you haven't read it yet, you must go read
kieyra's wonderful story Coming Up Close, written for the Smallville | Aimee Mann Title Challenge.
kieyra is quickly turning into a favorite SV author of mine, and I feel like a total jerk because I missed this when she posted. It's Lex, talking to Chloe, about Clark and, in my usual inarticulate way, I have nothing more to say except GO READ IT. Now.
I've been offline, at least in terms of fandom and LJ and e-mail, since Tuesday morning. I saw a few posts that annoyed me to a rather excessive degree and decided that I had better step back a little bit. I'm not getting what I want out of fandom or, really, anything right now. Mr. Glove has said, more than once, that I probably wouldn't recognize what I want if it came up and bit me on the ass, and I'm almost positive that he's correct. A few days' break hasn't really resolved any issues for me. I feel like I'm wasting a great deal of energy and effort, but I really don't know what would make me feel differently, so I can't even ask for it. Feh. I'm not "leaving fandom" or any of that particular drama, but I have to change something: now I just have to figure out what.
Also, even though my computer had certain instabilities before my little mini-vacation, I didn't think any of it was serious. However, as of today, almost all of my programs are only partially functional or won't work at all. Yay. I am going to spend the rest of the evening upgrading my operating system and hopefully everything will be shiny-new and super-functional in short order. At which point I can update the challenge site web page with
kieyra's story. You did go read it, right? Well, go read it again. It's really good.
Also: I can't go back to where I left off with LJ (I can only go back 660 posts. Huh.). I know whose Asylum-related meta I want to read, so I can go get that directly, but did anyone post fic? Or manips? Or just anything funny?
Wish me luck with the XP upgrade.
ETA: I'm not going to be able to post a BIWF story because I can't get in to finish it and, frankly, I'm kind of more focused on making the computer go at all right now.
