love of my life / amusement / archive
May. 8th, 2004 04:14 pmWho rocks the hardest in the entire universe? Goddamn
misterglove, that's who.
He recovered all the data on my "dead" hard drive, and it lives again. I sing his praises with operatic fervor. I also am backing stuff up like crazy. Backing up for real this time.

Hee! If you've been dubious about the premise of Van Helsing, you might want to read
kieyra's very spoilery recap to see if this helps you make sense out of it.

skyehawke dot com: If you'd like to be able to archive all of your fics together, receive feedback and ratings/reviews, and edit the archived fics yourself, you might want to check out skyehawke dot com.
shaggirl brought the site to my attention in her post yesterday. I'm paraphrasing her here for those who didn't see her post (and I think she was paraphrasing from someone else, as well as the skyehawke site, but I think in this case the plagiarism is okay):
Reasons skyehawke dot com is cool:
The archive welcomes all "good" writers, but you must get your account through an existing member in an effort to keep the quality of the stories archived high. Thanks to Dana, I've got a skyehawke account, and if you're someone whose work I have enjoyed, I'd be happy to set one up for you, too. Leave me a comment or e-mail me. There's more information about this policy at the skyehawke dot com site.
I'm very excited about having this archive available, as I can post all of my stories together, regardless of fandom, somewhere other than my own site. I love being able to edit the formatting myself. I love that potentially I might reach new readers--and hear from them, even if it's just a rating or quickie review! I've only posted one old story so far, but I'm planning to upload everything at some point.

Reasons skyehawke dot com is cool:
- Accepts fiction from all fandoms, as well as original fiction and non-fiction. If you write in multiple fandoms, you can have all your fic in a single place.
- Accepts all ratings with no restrictions on content.
- Accepts WiPs.
- Is quality controlled, in that an existing member must set up accounts for new users (more to follow.)
- Has an easy user interface, which allows members to edit/remove their fics without assistance from admin.
- Allows readers to both rate and review fics. In fact, as a community member, you are encouraged to do so.
- Shows members how many hits their fics receive.
- Has separate forums for discussion on writing in general and posted fics.
- Invites input from their members on improvements to the site.
