My spiffy new orange sneakers will now be forever thought of as "the shoes I killed the dog in."
When we bought my laptop, one of the prime considerations was enough memory, etc., to allow me to play The Sims and its various extension packs. As it turns out, The Sims 2 requires an updated video driver that neither the OEM nor the laptop manufacturer will deign to provide. We've been talking about getting me a new laptop anyway for a number of reasons, but I find it amusing that The Sims is a major impetus yet again.
Despite warning another LJer away from Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell due to the book's rather substantial physical weight, I brought it home as a sort of consolation. It's not exactly equivalent.
I am going to eat oven fries and drink wine and cry a little, maybe.
