It's definitely worse with all the Insim excitement. I can't help thinking that many of those who participate in the dogpiling would be absolutely mortified if caught behaving that way anywhere else - and probably wouldn't do it anywhere else. Watching 15 or 20 adults line up to take their turn swearing at some hapless 12 is just kind of embarrassing. While Pescado himself seems to enjoy the MOAR FIGHT, I've never noticed that he participates much. The closest to chatty I've ever seen him being is at GoS, actually, which is comparatively NO FIGHT. However, since I'm not one of his ardent fangirls (I think he's a good guy, but that's as far as it goes) I'm sure I've missed a lot of documented surliness.
