If you've wondered where I've been (or even if you have not, since obviously I'm about to tell you anyway), I've just been right here behind a thick layer of cotton wool. The Photoshop bits seem to make it through just fine, but I'm having trouble with words.
For once, it's not drugs: It's the season. I hate the holidays. I haven't spoken to anyone in my family for months. We haven't spoken to anyone in Mr. Glove's family for years. We've given up on the happy-happy-joy-joy idea, but we're not exactly pleased about that. Also, we're broke, which takes all of the stress (good) and all of the fun (bad) out of the whole present exchange notion. That's what happens to your finances when one of you is incapacitated but not to the point of medical disability. There's no DSM IV category for misanthrope, and plain old clinical depression does not cut it when it comes to getting a gov't check. And really, I wouldn't have deserved one anyway considering the people who apply and get turned down who are way worse off than me.
Today I sort of got a present, though. Mr. G signed up for a cafeteria plan through work for what I thought at the time was an excessive sum for medical expenses. We had lots of medication expenses, but that was all before the plan went into effect, and so there was this big glut o'money we had to use somehow (you can't just cash out, or we'd do that). So today I picked out three (!!!) new pairs of glasses, two regular and one sun, plus contact lenses. All l.a. eyeworks: tortoiseshell & violet skinny rectangles, teal blue metal cat-eyes, and sort of smoky blue/brown skinny glasses with wide temple pieces for sunglasses. I like having the option of contacts, but I do really like glasses. I'll have, like, a dozen pairs of prescription glasses now. Whee!
I owe email and gestures of friendship to way too many people, including
rhiannonhero,
jacynrebekah,
perclexed,
shaggirl, and
emelerin. I also should thank
princess_bunny and my dear
gothphyle for sending me holiday cards even though I'm scroogy, because both made me laugh.
I was hoping to get all my
crack_van covers done by the end of the year...I might not make it, but I'll be close.
ALSO: I have done a poor job of pimping this: My Smallville Aimee Mann Title Challenge. I haven't finished my story yet, so I'm extending the deadline through the end of February in hopes that maybe some of you will play. I may resort to guilt trips: after all, I participate in just about every damn SV challenge that comes along, you know...
