I know it is seen as dubious to push a friend's stories, but what about pushing a story that isn't even posted yet? I did a beta read on a story this morning for
isagel and I'm impatient for her to post because I love it so much and I want everyone else to have the opportunity to read it (and probably also love it). See, it's not just my own stories that I feel must be posted instantaneously. That's really all I have to say. Except that I wish I could have written this, and it makes me almost embarrassed about the story I wrote for her a few days back. While hers and mine are technically in the same category, they are definitely not in the same class.
I went to buy videotapes at the local Q-Mart and ended up also buying jeans that look like something Steven Tyler would wear. Hey--they were only $12. Flower embroidery across the front. Buttons from knee to hem of the flare legs. A smaller size than I have worn in years--bonus! They look pretty cool with the cowboy boots. I am going to a girlie show on Valentine's day, so now I have something slightly ridiculous yet flattering to wear.
Tonight's SV: Around here, when Dale Earnhardt (sp?) died, all the NASCAR people (which is a lot of the general population, it seems) had black electrical tape bars over the "3" stickers in their car windows. Because 3 was Earnhardt's car number, see? Maybe you'd have to live here to understand the level of mourning that took place...people wore black arm bands for a good week following his death. People took time of from work to recover from the emotional shock. It seemed a little excessive to me, as NASCAR and that type of racing is not my kind of thing at all. I like to drive fast, very fast, but I like to do it on a road, and away from other drivers as much as possible. And I don't want to sit and watch other people do it. Anyway, I am dubious about the fun factor in tonight's SV ep, but I'll be watching. Maybe this time...Lex will go evil!

Re:
Date: 2004-02-11 05:28 pm (UTC)And, sure, my story was fun, but this is...special.
NASCAR and Dale
Date: 2004-02-11 06:06 pm (UTC)They told me about Dale Sr.'s accident, and said he brought it on himself. He had a dirty method of sliding up to people and bumping them from behind until they lost control and crashed. I don't think anyone was seriously hurt or died as a result, but it was still dirty pool.
Well, karma has its ways. I can't remember if she said he was doing it again and lost control of HIS car, or if someone else was pulling a little turnabout, but it was because of that particular stunt that he spun out and wrecked.
But yeah, I remember people falling apart around here (Michigan) after that. People taking time off work, etc. Geez -- you didn't see anyone do that when the WTC were hit (here, at least). It's just another example of how twisted we've become in the ways we idolize people -- sports figures are considered heroes, but REAL heroes, the people who save lives day in and day out, are forgotten.

Date: 2004-02-12 05:50 am (UTC)I stayed overnight at my parents', so I only just got the beta. I love how you're so detailed about the language; the end result is going to be so much better for it. Posting to be expected tonight when I get home from work. I'm still going back and forth on the title. I hated the original title (Mad About You, if you remember, and as a Homicide fan I've been wary about the connotations of the current one all along. I'll probably go with something river-related, as you suggested. I just don't know what.
I'm so excited that you like this so much!!!
