spoilery thoughtsWow. I thought there were some really cool things in this ep. I know there were problems, but the exchanges between Clark and his dad, Clark and Pete, and Clark and Lex all did great things to propel the characters forward.

Jonathan acknowledging that Clark's options and choices are not, in fact, those that are known and familiar to him and Martha, and that Clark will basically have to form his own morality based on the things he can do that no one else can.

I was annoyed by the speedy set-up of Pete's new hobby, but perhaps most of my problems had to do with the horrible, grating music playing during all of the race scenes. It makes sense that he'd be into racing as there's always been some indication that Pete likes cars, especially exploding Camaros.

I really loved Clark calling Pete on his bullshit even though he obviously felt he had no choice but to help him. Obviously, one of the things Clark is going to have to do is find a way to not end up morally compromised…which I guess is where a Supersekrit identity might come in handy, yes? I also loved the scene at the end. I teared up. I loved Clark not being a tool or a pawn or a chump or anything other than a sad-eyed, betrayed friend. I really love Clark.

I loved the Lex scenes. The barn scene made me whimper. I can't even be coherent. Lex loves Clark so much. And he'll do anything for him (so long as it's for him). Anything at all. And Clark better fucking be careful what he wishes for.

Adam. Now it's boring. They just need to do whatever they're going to do with the character. Perhaps he's just a long, drawn-out way for Lex to get himself a pet biologist. Hi, Dr. Tang.

Oh. My. God. Preview for next week with Clark in bed with some girl straddling his lap. Jesus. That feeling? Where your ovaries are sort of…stimulated? Gah. Clearly the only thing that would make this odd sensation better is being that girl who gets to sit on TW's lap.

No Angel for me, apparently. They're apparently going to re-air Smallville on Saturday, but I don't know about Angel. I'm getting kind of dependent on the Angel eps, as well, but I'm somewhat soothed by the Smallville.

I'm glad someone else liked the Clark/Pete scene at the end. Clark is pretty much on his own now. It's a very lonely place to be and I feel bad for him that so many people think he's an ass just because he's not sweet smiling Clark anymore.

The only Clark I didn't like was barn!Clark. It didn't make sense to me that he wouldn't just tell Lex. When Lex said "Be careful," it felt to me like he knew Clark was going to do something. Kind of like quietly condoning whatever Clark had to do. It seemed silly to have Clark revert to playing dumb when there was no reason for him to think Lex would have been upset.

Um. You didn't miss much on Angel, IMO. And I'm done babbling now. :)

You know, I'm seeing a lot of people wondering why Clark didn't just tell, and up until this season, I would have said the same. But at this point I really do think that Clark is afraid to tell ANYTHING to ANYONE, even when obviously it would be the right thing to do, or would make things infinitely better.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but I see a pattern of Clark mistaking the keeping of secrets for personal integrity, and now that we're seeing fallout from some of that, it's starting to cause him a great deal of distress. He's totally on his own. His dad has basically just cut him loose in terms of providing moral guidance, even though he didn't mean to strand Clark by doing so. Lex knows that Clark is a liar, and I think that just freaks Clark the fuck out. How can he even begin to backtrack from all the lies? It gets a little bit too late with every episode.

Poor little alien boy, scared and lonely. Plus, he's so fucking pretty. Jesus Christ. I'm seeing evidence that people hated his hair, but I think it looked fine. However, my viewing of TW/Clark's hair is tempered by
foreknowledge of the merciless haircut that I know we'll see him with sometime later this season
.

Excellent point. He also seems extremely unsure what to say to Lex anymore, since Asylum.

Yessss. The Chloe/Clark scene in the Torch... she had to explain to him why keeping Pete's secret was a Bad Thing, instead of a Show of Friendship. Hmm. It's starting to get complicated.

I liked his hair too. I forget which scene it was, but we got to see the back of his head...and it's just so thick and wavy and Lex really, really needs to sink his fingers into it and hold on.

Oh! Just run your cursor over the "spoiler" section to select it and thus read it. It's just white text that mentions K-site photo for an upcoming episode. I was just trying to be nice to extreme spoilerphobes, who might even be upset about finding out that something happens with TW's hair ;)

I don't like Pete, either, but I'm glad that they used the character. I certainly do tend to believe that Clark and Pete have been friends since toddlerhood, though, because why else would Clark hang with someone who uses/abuses/takes him for granted so much? Pete's jealous, unreasonable speech about Clark feeling special every day just made me crazy! And then Clark feeling bad later on, telling his Dad that he thinks he takes Pete for granted just made me sad. Clark thinks everything is his fault.

But yes. Kissing. Hugging. Clark getting down on his knees and begging forgiveness. All good things, definitely.

*shakes Head* Pete's needed to know that screwin with Clark's morals is not a good thing. Dumb Ass. *sigh*

I really wish I'd seen the episode you saw. Interesting analysis, it's given me a lot to think about.

Well, I see it as very dangerous to have someone like Lex be that devoted to you... I do see that Lex's love for Clark (whether just what we see onscreen or the Big Gay Love that we all know is going on, too) could very easily result in Lex doing things that might be against Clark's wishes, or might harm or hinder Clark in some way, if that's what it took to keep Clark accessible to him. I am finding the controlling, crazy-person love being played out here to be very fucking sexy. And the Kents are not sophisticated enough to even see real trouble coming, and I do think it's something they're building with their treatment of both their own son and his friends (Lex AND Pete, actually).

I wish you'd enjoyed it, too. I do think it was, in some ways, a steaming heap, but I really did like the things that happened between the characters.

I, too, felt the Pete/Clark scene at the end was delicious. I was *so* cheering for Clark when he let the ball drop and walked away - for all the bitching Pete does about having to be Clark's friend, he doesn't hesitate to use it to his advantage. It makes me angrier to think how he always spouts that he has Clark's back compared to Lex, and that a Luthor can't be trusted. Seems to me Lex knows the rules better than any teenage boy with an inferiority complex could: and here, Clark had to rely on his ties with Lex to save Pete's ass on grounds that could only be described as 'stupid teenage crap'.
Watching Clark walk away, I hoped Clark was thinking "well, at least Lex wouldn't try to gloss it over like that - hell, I bet Lex wouldn't get himself in that situation to begin with, would he?"

The barn scene - I felt it was a bit of a jealousy thing with Lex. I had the feeling he was not-asking Clark if he would steal for him and bend the rules a bit to show his twoo lofff. The fact that he didn't own up to it? Clark won't be getting any roses for Valentine's Day.

I wondered a bit why Lex didn't offer to fly in the best cardiologist for Bo like he usually would.
