happy day for Mr. G

Back in 1987, I was a skinny, feral girl in a miniature skirt with Lady Godiva-style magenta hair, and I was not looking for love. Sex, sure, but not anything enduring--I couldn't think more than a week or so ahead without panicking anyway. Also, I was unsuccessfully chasing persons of a female persuasion, so it was quite a surprise to me when I actually developed love feelings for the person whom we all know today as [livejournal.com profile] misterglove. What can I say? He was really cute.

Today he is old.

happy birthday, my dear [livejournal.com profile] misterglove

Stuff he knows: how electricity works, why it works, and how to harness it in ways both useful and frivolous. How to ski. How to tell the height of a tree from the length of its shadow. How to make a good piecrust. How to play the guitar and how to make music-like sounds come out of any instrument he fiddles with. He knows what to do when major appliances stop working, or when cracks appear in the walls, or when cars don't run right. I don't know how to do any of these things, and while I didn't choose him for these abilities, it works out rather nicely that he has them.

He seems to have this idea that I add benefit to his life ("add benefit" is the kind of thing he says) despite the fact that I have no practical application inside the home or out. Let's all encourage him to keep thinking this, shall we?

We just watched The Hours and seeing Julianne Moore play a depressed person trying to make a birthday cake amused the hell out of me. I will be attempting to make a carrot cake today, and if anyone has any tips or recipes to share, I welcome them in the name of a happier day for Mr. G.

Yay Mr. Glove! :D And mmmm. Cream cheese frosting! Don't quote me on this, but I think it's good that you salt the grated carrots before hand? Get more of the water out? I could be talking out of my ass though, so .... But mmmm. Carrot cake! ::nubs::

Yay! I made it!

Obviously I don't know your husband, but he has always sounded very adorable and tolerant as you paint him in your LJ, so I hope that he has a happy birthday.

I'd offer you tips on the making of carrot cake, but you know what? As a human disaster in the kitchen, the stuff of culinary nightmare, I have successfully made carrot cake, which suggests that it's one of those unscrewupable things.

Thank you for the nice birthday wishes. I am actually quite despicable and cranky.

I love Mr. Glove. Give him a kiss on the cheek from me.

I may be in KC. Can't you come over sooner?

Nope. Got stuff to see, people to do. Jed might come see me, though. I am going to be there for like three days or something when I come. Sat, Sun and Monday.

Well, don't go to KY! Stay home!

Wish Mr. Glove a happy day for me!! Good luck on the carrot cake!

Thanks!

(Mister Glove extents his very best regards and thanks her for her kind greeting)

Feliz CumpleaƱos to [livejournal.com profile] misterglove :)

Julianne is richer than Velvetglove, but I am sure the cake will be nicer. I am not sure that Julianne actually bakes.

Thank you!

A happy birthday to Mr. Glove! I don't actually know him, of course, but I don't remember you ever saying a single word about him that didn't make me think I'd love him if I did know him. I hope you both have a great day. *hugs*

So, when do we meet?

[identity profile] misterglove.livejournal.com 2004-02-24 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! VelvetG says these nice things because she knows I read her journal.

VelvetG says these nice things because she knows I read her journal.

So that's why we never hear about the domestic upheavals and the spousal abuse? I thought you sounded too good to be true. ;)

As for us meeting, that will be the day I win the lottery and can afford a trip across the pond. Or, of course, the day you decide to take Jed on a European vacation. She already has a standing invitation for the sofa-bed in my living room, and I'm sure there's room for you as well.
