Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducting VH1 is running the Hall of Fame induction thing with Prince (!!!) again. He gave this speech about a true friend and mentor not being someone on your payroll, about a true friend being someone who cares as much about your soul as their own...and it made me cry. What the hell is with me today? I missed it yesterday, so I'm excited I'm getting a chance to see Prince do While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Of course, since this is VH1, they'll probably rerun it twice a week until the 2005 induction ceremonies, but for us instant gratification types, this is important!!!
Aside: Alicia Keys (part of his induction team) has a fucking sexy voice. I've seen rumors that she likes girls and I'd very much like to think they are true.
I remember seeing Purple Rain in the theater when it was new, then going back with my friends and seeing it again the next night. I think I saw it five or six times--we're talking about a time when movies took years to come out on VHS, if at all, and they cost $80 or more to own, so anything you liked you'd see until they pulled it off the screens if you were wired that way. I liked the whole thing (overemphasized but *there* misogyny aside), but I especially liked the rageful, speaker-fucking version of Darling Nikki that made me liquefy every time.
In mid-90s, I wasn't as fond of what he was doing, but I still listen to the Sign O' the Times album on a pretty regular basis. There have been a few RRHF inductees I've thought sucked, but Prince deserves the slot.
As to the others...Yay! Traffic! even ZZ Top! I like Jackson Browne, or I did, until the rumors about him beating up his girlfriend at the time, Daryl Hannah, were acknowledged as true. I'm sure he's had to do something official about his temper sometime in the last 20 years, but I still regard him with wary disgust.
Except, you know, JFK Jr. smacked her, too. Maybe she's just really insufferable.
Wow. Bruce Springsteen's induction speech is funny, charming, and totally crushing on Jackson Browne. Where's the Bruce/Jackson slash????
Also, since LJ is being assy, you may have missed it, so I'm pointing it out again. You might want to read the amazing story Alee (
gothphyle) wrote for my b-day (which is actually Saturday). It's here: Not A Simple Thing. I don't want to say too much about it so as not to spoil anyone, but it's...perfect. A perfect present for me. *hugs self*
Also: icons.
After talking about my Ginger-love in various places,
pepperjackcandy made me a Ginger icon. Because I'm me, I made it b&w and put my name on it. She's hot in color. She's kind of creepy in b&w. Years and years on a desert isle (uncharted, even), and her makeup was perfect every day, she never got hairy, and her dresses turned me into a drag queen.

And because I'm surprising even myself with a sudden love of gay cartoon porn, here's another icon I made for myself:

My offer to provide said gay cartoon porn to anyone who wants to set up a streamload account (it has to be a paid account) still stands. I also have eps 1-10 and 12 of YnM, thanks to dear
_nepthys_. I haven't watched them yet, but I'm still willing to share ;)
OH!!! And I finally finished
shaggirl's website, and you can go read her stories in one fantabulous place here: Gotham Underground
LJ is being stupid. I still can't see this post on my FL. I guess that means I just have to keep adding to it every few seconds until it finally shows itself... ETA: Okay, I can see it. Which I guess means I have to stop.
ETA again: I had forgotten just how much 70s cock rock I do love, leading to me wishing that ZZ Top had done something radio-raunchy like Pearl Necklace. Also. Whoa--George Harrison's kid. I want to do him. I want to watch random guys do him.

You've been a busy little bee...

I also proceeded to crack myself up over that embryo story. Somehow I missed whenever the heck that gem premiered. *g*
You have a lovely eye, hon. You ever considering going pro with web site design? If not, you should.
*Hugs*

Date: 2004-03-22 10:23 pm (UTC)This Hall of Fame thing is way more enjoyable than I'd expected. Not just Prince, but all the rest.

Date: 2004-03-22 10:20 pm (UTC)Also, with my current, somewhat shameful cartoon porn squeeing...Dhani looks kinda easy to draw, if you know what I mean.

Date: 2004-03-23 02:04 am (UTC)Does it have to be streamload? I have a site hosting account and I have a few GBs to spare and I can easily set up an account name/password for you. But if it has to be streamload how big/small of a paid account would I need?

Date: 2004-03-23 10:29 am (UTC)Well, at the end of the month, I switch site hosts, and I’m looking at a plan that offers 5 GB space and 70 GB bandwidth — I’m just waiting for a paycheck before I do. Once that’s set up, I’d be willing to host AnK and YnM for a limited time (say a month) with an email-us-for-the-password deal. So, if you do end up overflooded with requests, I should be able to ease some of that burden off you.
I’m just selfish here. ;-) I just wanna see AnK since the anime video store near me has never heard of it. And then
Good luck with learning Flash, btw. Gawd, I love what that program does.

Date: 2004-03-23 06:32 pm (UTC)In other news though, I have all of YnM on DVD, so if you explain to me in small words so I can follow, I'll be happy to get you copies of whatever episodes you're missing.
{Jo wanders off, muttering in Ancient Aramaic because that's what her life's been about for the past three years.)
