I didn't get a callback, so I clearly didn't get the job, nor will I be receiving the pile of money that is the reason for wanting the job in the first place. At least it was quick; I didn't even have a chance to spend the money in my head.

The experience was incredibly demoralizing, and I am again left feeling embarassingly diva-esque, as it's difficult for me to reconcile this rejection with what is now suspected to be erroneously high self-regard when compariing myself to the rest of the people floundering in the job pool. The Mr. has reasserted that I should just write my damn book(s) and not worry about a "real" job - especially since it's unlikely that I'll be able to get a job that would make getting up at 7 AM (or earlier!) worthwhile.

I had other things to talk about, but right now all I can think about is 1) sick bird, and 2) hate mail from mom. I think sick bird is actually injured bird, and I believe she hurt her beak/jaw by playing too hard - no signs of plague, scurvy, or typhoid - but since she won't eat, I'm fretting.

As for the hate mail, it was really just passive-aggressive bitch mail, but she has yet to respond to my nice reply. It's possible she's revving up to really let loose on me, and I'm sort of hoping this might happen, since I'm curious how I'd feel about someone in my family actually expressing emotion in a forceful way. I think I'd probably like it, even if it was mean, provided that it was direct.

Writing your books would be good, provided that you write them, which is kind of key. (So sayeth I, the person with two books in progress and no finish in sight.)

I'm worried about bird. Are you taking her to the vet?

sorry about the job. feh on them anyway. you wouldn't have wanted to work for folks so obviously uncomfortable with you at the interview anyway.

I am sorry about the job - the loss of potential earnings is the worst part of disappointing interviews :/

I am also very sad to hear of avian injuries. Pet woes, they are filled with The Stress. *sigh*

Hmmm. That is a lot of stuff to deal with in one day. I feel for ya.

Re. yr recent entry on the way we approach disease/medicine/prevention/etc: have you seen David B.'s comic book memoir
'Epilepsy''? I think it just came out in paperback. There's a lot in it about how people respond to illness (as patients, loved ones, witnesses, healers). And it also considers the extent to which the emotional self might impact health. Tis fascinating and sad. I think you might find it interesting.

Sorry the interview didn't pan out in a reassuring way, but I'm with your man: conventional employment is overrated, especially when you have so many promising writerly skills to offer the world. Perhaps you can incorporate annoyance at the working world into your writing in a kind of double-whammy.

Hope the bird gets better soon, and I hope your mom's response provides some satisfaction in whatever form you wish for it.

And I hope we get to see youse guys soon.

Bad luck on the job

Just wanted to say it was great to meet you on saturday night.

Talking to you motivated me to restart a fandom documentary I was working on a few months back.

so thanks...
