overstimulated / remember when / shiny!

I needed caffeine, but now I've had too much. There's this little muscle above the outside corner of my left eye that's just going berserk, I feel vaguely nauseated, and I want to cry and tell someone (i.e., someone other than me) that the way I am feeling right now is all their fault. But that's not actually true, I don't suppose.
If I'm going to carry through with my plans to burn out rather than fade away, I suppose I ought to post some fic soon. Does anyone remember when I used to write stories?
This costume-making gig is shiny in both the literal and Firefly senses of the term. There are sequins everywhere.

Eh, we're addicts.

(Serious downside to getting online every two weeks. Argh for another time.)
Re: Eh, we're addicts.
Date: 2004-04-12 09:15 pm (UTC)I am making a Carmen Miranda costume for my friend Kicky, who is doing a performance as part of the New York Burlesque Festival. She had a costume that she was thinking wasn't really good enough for the "big city" and I readily concurred...and offered to make her one, which meant making a pattern. She had no idea that I actually had never made a pattern from scratch before; I told her once we had the skirt fit on her and looking fabulous. I can't run a 4-minute mile or cure cancer, but there are plenty of things I've never done before that I know I can do...
Anyway, red sequin fabric, mermaidy skirt, floor-length w/train and double-ruffle. Itty-bitty vest-type top with ruffle sleeves. A big headdress, which she has been working on. I think I should have made it, but it's her costume and she wants to do something... And we're going to paint and glitter her shoes.
So far, this has been fun, and even though I'm just doing it for her, I could charge people a ridiculous amount of money for this sort of thing. I think I might be able to start a business making costumes like this. Also pasties. You would not believe how much $ people get for sets of pasties! There's probably not time for me to get a bunch of merchandise together in time for the NYC show (which I am attending) as it takes place just a month from now...but there's always mail order.
So. That's that ;)
Re: Eh, we're addicts.
Date: 2004-05-25 08:22 pm (UTC)Re the pasties thing. At least that end of the business you should run. Two reasons.
1. People will, as you noted, pay ridiculous amounts of money for pasties, even barely-decorated ones.
2. There's something cool yet sleazy about running a mail-order pasties business out of your home. :)

How about if I berate you for your birthday story being late?
Did you have a date with my husband, or did he have to work?
