I have been getting some of those odd spam e-mails with the First/Middle Initial/Last senders and the polite warning that this is an advert in the subject line. The faux-senders have had interesting names. Vegas M. Lords. Enos P. Capra. And now, Wrier B. Hydrogen. Well, I don't know what a "Wrier" is, but I do think that I should start writing using the name Bee Hydrogen.

I'm serious. You ever see fic of any kind (pro, fan, bad) by Bee Hydrogen, that's going to be me.

Speaking of hydrogen, are you finding your slot on the periodic table? [livejournal.com profile] dolimir is putting together a fannish periodic chart. It is not clear to me what we can do with this information, but it seems to be in the spirit of pointless polls and so I heartily approve. I claimed strontium (Sr) because it is #38 and I just turned 38. It ignites spontaneously in air! According to WebElements: "Volatile strontium salts impart an excellent crimson colour to flames, and these salts are used in pyrotechnics." That's a scientist talking there, using the word excellent to describe a color. I'm in love.

I almost went for rubidium (#37), as it is, if anything, even crankier than strontium, and burns a "yellowish-violet," which sounds like a bruise and is probably something to see. Although it probably kills you unless you're wearing protective gear.

Also, as a point of interest if not exactly a bonus, the word strontium is vaguely reminiscent of not particularly pleasant things like stridency and Strom Thurmond.

I am tired of whipstitching ribbon to cover seams. I want my remix story to magically figure out a way to end on its own. I guess I'm done working for today.

It gets even better. "Strontium-90 is a by-product of the fission of uranium and plutonium in nuclear reactors, and in nuclear weapons. Strontium-90 is found in waste from nuclear reactors. It can also contaminate reactor parts and fluids. Large amounts of Sr-90 were produced during atmospheric nuclear weapons tests conducted in the 1950s and 1960s and dispersed worldwide."

I picked Aluminium, mostly so that I could be all, "You can call me Al." I'm a fan of the pun (not to be confused with [livejournal.com profile] pun, of whom I am also a fan). Also, I like the British pronunciation of Aluminium. I have good logic!

I went with Xenon, since it is a) in the same family as Krypton, which fanficauthor got first and b) in the inert gases, so it reacts to nothing unless really provoked. It's me in element form.

Since we're sharing. Hi Joyful!

Dern.

Think I totally missed out being on the fannish periodic table. Le sigh.
