oiranA lot of work. A lot more reading to do. So I'll do the easiest parts first, i.e., starting the Royall Tyler translation of Tale of Genji. I figure that it's related to learning Japanese. If I wanted to just go ahead and start learning vocabulary in romaji, then I'd be set, but I'd rather learn to recognize the characters first. So. Back to graph paper and sounding out syllables as I write them, like a mouth-breathing first-grader. As it stands currently, I can only confidently read the sex noises in manga.

lenajill full of dirty manga! One of them is even the continuation of a story I've got downloaded from one of the scanlation groups, which means I will be able to see a "real" translation side-by-side with my own attempts. Also, she included a learn-in-10-minutes-a-day book full of stickers that you put on your lamps and shoes and teakettles so that you remember the Japanese words for them ;) THANK YOU SO MUCH, LENAJILL!!!!
Mr. Glove is going to be back in the Seattle area in September for work, and I think I'll put together a book list for him to go fetch from the Kinokuniya store there. Yes, I will make my poor husband go buy me "girls' comics"…but I'll be sure to print out a list which he can brandish ostentatiously so as to hopefully make it apparent he's just doing someone a favor.

I have now bagged and boarded all of my comic books - at least the ones I can find. There are a bunch of things missing, meaning that they're in a box in the basement that hopefully hasn't gotten moldy. Especially the large-format issues of RAW.

If anyone has ANY scans of the 8th, 10th and 11th volumes of Yami no Matsuei (and any unscanlated sections of the other volumes), I would love, love, love to see them. I've got the translations, thanks to theria.net, but there's an awful lot of action in the GenSouKai storyline, and I'd like to see some of it…
