Saw Aimee Mann last night with Rhi. Mr. Glove had a ticket but was more than happy--eager, even--to give it up to her. We decided to skip the opening act (I'm guilty of doing this very, very often) so we could drink beers and eat burgers. We had already had wine at my house (necessitating Mr. Glove dropping us off at the venue like we were teenagers--overly cautious, perhaps, but I don't like driving and alcohol to have any cross-reference, you know?), and the beer was really good…and we became very delighted with ourselves, our friendship, our generally admirable natures and pretty hair. Basically: divafest! Actually arriving at the theater and not being able to sit together was kind of a buzzkill, but we didn't have long to fret before the show got under way.

Aimee looks like…Aimee. She wore that same striped jacket she wore on Buffy, jeans, a white shirt that looked like maybe it got washed with some colors ;), and a silver-and-gray striped tie of questionable taste, as well as the unflattering center part that doesn't really hide the fact that she's gorgeous.

She did most of the Lost In Space record, about half of Bachelor #2, and both Wise Up and Save Me from Magnolia, as well as a couple new songs and a song apiece from the two prior solo albums. And, despite claiming that she couldn't really remember Voices Carry, they did a beautiful, almost stately, version as an encore that was clearly as practiced as the rest of the songs.

No Deathly and no Ghost World, but otherwise she played everything I really wanted to hear. My only complaint would be the one I have about most live shows: the songs are played with too much allegiance to album versions. I want a variation on the theme. I realize I'm in a minority with this, but a few artists I love do make changes between recorded and live, which makes it worthwhile to see them live, i.e., Tori Amos and Nick Cave.

I listen to her music so often that I found myself drifting off into story-think while sitting there in the auditorium, i.e., basically paying very little attention to the activities on stage. Does anyone else find this happens with performers they listen to often in a…contemplative setting?

I really wanted a t-shirt until I saw they were just the unisex/boy-cut style. Now that my upper arms are no longer the size of thighs, I want girlie t-shirts, something with a little taper. Because, unlike Aimee Mann, I actually want to look pretty; however, I actually need to try.

Came back to Casa Glove and watched Latter Days. Ohmygod! It's so cute! It's so corny, but the leads have such great chemistry! squeeful movie spoilers )

After Rhi headed home today, I watched the Tori Amos Welcome to Sunny Florida DVD. I've had this for…a month, maybe? I hadn't watched it before now. Jumpy edits, jumpy edits, jumpy edits. And, while I'm sure Tori loves her band members, I don't care about them. Not at all. I want to see her, not the bassist or drummer. But the sound is good, and I love the songs. I ended up closing my eyes and dozing/listening. I was nearly inert with exhaustion, as Mr. Glove made me get up at a decent hour to make sure Rhi got off in a timely manner (didn't happen, but we were up, anyway).

I think I need to work on a fun, friendly story. I've been working on mean stuff all week. So, it's maybe time to reapproach College!Clark and Business!Lex (now with Added Business!), which just happens to be one of my stories for my own Aimee Mann Title Challenge and thus is a very apt project.
