I've been doing some reading on the Remix Redux III: Reloaded site, and I've got a few recommendations in random fandoms.
Remix Recs
Please note the warnings posted at the Remix site with the stories. I'm not going to repeat complete header information here but be aware that, unsurprisingly, some of these stories do contain spoilers.
Like Frost Unto Dew (The Circadian Remix)
Remix of Sofia Jirafe's Passing of a Winter Love
Fandom: Beauty and the Beast (Disney)
Rating: R
I did not know there was a fandom for the Disney version of this story, and it was mostly a sort of "WTF?" bemusement that made me click on the link. As it happens, this is a not-very-Disneyish version of the immediate post-Beastliness adjustment period, addressing something I often wondered about when reading versions of the fairy tale. Full of lonely spaces and broken connections, but concise and beautiful. Better than the (admittedly quite charming) film deserves :)

Nested Like Dolls (Under Your Skin Recitative)
Remix of Kurukami's A New World
Fandom: Firefly
Rating: G
Despite the presence of a major peeve (use of clothes vs. cloths), this is a terrific River POV. She's River, not retarded or crazy, and I found this version of a River thought process believable and very much in line with her typically unsettling statements on the program.

Cold Comforts (The Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine Remix)
Remix of Sullen Siren's Cold Comforts
Fandom: Firefly
Rating: PG-13
Simon POV, worrying about River with an undercurrent of unbrotherly emotions. I did go read the original as well, and I was even more impressed with the remixer's ability to bring in so many images from the original while making them so different - expanded, twisted, re-contextualized. I do tend to dismiss Simon as a fussbudget with a sister complex and, although that's technically true, this story, although short, goes deep into the subtleties of Simon's character.

Selfish (Little Fugue Remix)
Remix of Alianora's Selfish
Fandom: Lost
Rating: NC-17
Hehehehehehe - except it's not actually funny. I'm just a pervert. This is a dirty story in more ways than one. Drunken Shannon POV, all hot and confuzzled, and it's mean, too! Since people do often try to do things with formatting/caps/punctuation or lack thereof for emphasis, and unfortunately they often do not work out very well, I do want to point out that I liked the formatting choices made here and think they provided excellent emphatic effect.

In A Name (The Elemental Remix)
Remix of qwerty's In A Name
Fandom: Saiyuki
Rating: G
Wonderful character piece that beautifully describes the relationships among the four travelers, includes ample, spot-on doses of the humor and crankiness that are pretty much necessary to a good Saiyuki story, and spends a lot of time on Hakkai, who is always my favorite. It manages to be subtly romantic without making anyone into a shojo-pinafore-wearing-girl - you see the caring between them, the degrees and variations, and I actually do see a possible Sanzo/Goku relationship when it's set up like this.

Conjoined Twin (Separation Anxiety Remix)
Remix of my Siamese Twin
Fandom: Smallville
Rating: NC-17
So, I did a manip once of two Lexes, one clothed and one naked, and the background was an altered image of an actual hotel somewhere in Thailand, and while I was working on it I thought Ha ha! Thailand! Siamese twin! Ha ha!. The corny possible title and the idea of two Lexes (and a brief mental tussle trying to turn Two Ladies from Cabaret into Two Lexes without any lasting success) led me to write some Clone!Porn, but…it was just porn, yo.
And maybe that's the best kind of story to remix, something that does have a good idea buried in it, but an idea that the original author either didn't see, or perhaps was too porn-addled to resolve in any plot-like way.
Terrific Lex voice throughout. The plotting is tight and the pace snappy. It's clever and smart. And, as I mentioned before, it offers plausible explanations for much of what's wrong with Season 4 with deftness, grace, and good sense.
I don't want to give too much away, but certain…identity issues are handled in such a way that I could do nothing but cackle with horrified glee as I read. Which is a very good thing, just in case that's not clear. Who doesn't enjoy a little additional mindfuck with their twincest?
If you're a Smallville fan/ex-fan, admirer of well-plotted fic, have a kink for bald twins, etc., etc., I can't imagine you won't enjoy this.
