NYC trip in May

Okey-doke. I'm booked. I'm flying on Southwest into Islip/Long Island on Friday, 05/14. I have the entire day to get myself to whatever hotel that
shaggirl and I end up staying at, and then I'm going to see Kicky La Rue do her hootchie-cootchie thing at 1:30 AM at the Pussycat Lounge (heh. It looks sleazy!), which is my only set-in-stone plan. In any case, I don't leave until the late afternoon of the 18th (Tuesday), so I have lots of time open to meet with people, see museums, eat, etc.
I'd love it if there'd be some way for all us weary travelers (myself,
shaggirl,
msdaccxx and
koimistress being just the out-of-towners I know of) and the locals to get together for drinks, perhaps Saturday evening? I hope that someone in NYC would be willing to help coordinate this (hint, hint
kstanley?
nerodi?, anybody?)
I want to see the Met, the Guggenheim, and MoMA, though I realize I might not get to see everything, or at least not in as much detail as I'd like. I don't care about Broadway shows or sightseeing tours or anything too official for this trip. I have neither the money nor the interest for "big name" restaurants. I like to get up whenever I get up, do whatever I feel like doing during daylight hours, and make firm plans only for the evening hours, i.e., food, drinks, dancing, go-go boys. I'm looking for the absolutely funnest, most lurid gay club options, so any suggestions in this vein are highly appreciated. Also, if anyone would like to do the museums/clubs/eating, etc. with me/us, I'd welcome the company.
And what kind of weather should a traveler expect in mid-May? I have found on most other trips I've taken in the last few years that I usually wear the same outfit or two the entire time I'm in a new place, so I'm not planning on bringing much if I don't have to.

Date: 2004-04-01 04:17 pm (UTC)I'm sorry but if there is dumpster eating I'm going to have to rethink sharing a room with you. You might use my toothbrush, and that's just ICK.
:D :D :D

Heh.

Date: 2004-04-01 04:13 pm (UTC)My idea of a good time is wandering around, drinking coffee, learning a little about a neighborhood. I have no illusions I will "know" a city in anything like a deep way in only a handful of days. I believe Dana also wants to see art. I also love bookstores and record stores. While I scoff at most vacation shopping (i.e., there are Gap stores everywhere, aren't there?), the media outlets (especially the indie ones) are always worthwhile. And I need a good comic book store visit if I can fit one in.
So, yes, NYC fen: figure out what to do with us, please ;)

Date: 2004-04-01 04:24 pm (UTC)A friend was in New York last week and she mailed me a list of good record stores, reasonably priced restaurants etc. in the Greenwich Village area. Do you and Shaggy know whereabouts you're staying yet?

Date: 2004-04-01 07:35 pm (UTC)Have a good time at Connexions! I have always wanted to go to Baltimore (due to my love of Homicide and now The Wire), and I remember Reet had a good time at Connexions last year, but for some reason I thought it was a con for just Sentinel fans. That's not the case, though, is it? Something to keep in mind for next year, I guess...

Date: 2004-04-02 05:22 am (UTC)Nope, not at all. I'm more of a DS person myself. There are a lot of HP and SH panels, but it's mostly just fans of slash - any slash - in general. This is the first time Im going but I'm excited!
I'll email you as soon as I get back. This will be fun! Yippee!
