Okey-doke. I'm booked. I'm flying on Southwest into Islip/Long Island on Friday, 05/14. I have the entire day to get myself to whatever hotel that [livejournal.com profile] shaggirl and I end up staying at, and then I'm going to see Kicky La Rue do her hootchie-cootchie thing at 1:30 AM at the Pussycat Lounge (heh. It looks sleazy!), which is my only set-in-stone plan. In any case, I don't leave until the late afternoon of the 18th (Tuesday), so I have lots of time open to meet with people, see museums, eat, etc.

I'd love it if there'd be some way for all us weary travelers (myself, [livejournal.com profile] shaggirl, [livejournal.com profile] msdaccxx and [livejournal.com profile] koimistress being just the out-of-towners I know of) and the locals to get together for drinks, perhaps Saturday evening? I hope that someone in NYC would be willing to help coordinate this (hint, hint [livejournal.com profile] kstanley? [livejournal.com profile] nerodi?, anybody?)

I want to see the Met, the Guggenheim, and MoMA, though I realize I might not get to see everything, or at least not in as much detail as I'd like. I don't care about Broadway shows or sightseeing tours or anything too official for this trip. I have neither the money nor the interest for "big name" restaurants. I like to get up whenever I get up, do whatever I feel like doing during daylight hours, and make firm plans only for the evening hours, i.e., food, drinks, dancing, go-go boys. I'm looking for the absolutely funnest, most lurid gay club options, so any suggestions in this vein are highly appreciated. Also, if anyone would like to do the museums/clubs/eating, etc. with me/us, I'd welcome the company.

And what kind of weather should a traveler expect in mid-May? I have found on most other trips I've taken in the last few years that I usually wear the same outfit or two the entire time I'm in a new place, so I'm not planning on bringing much if I don't have to.

So, you come, too. I don't have much (any) money, either. We can eat out of trash cans if necessary.

I'm sorry but if there is dumpster eating I'm going to have to rethink sharing a room with you. You might use my toothbrush, and that's just ICK.

:D :D :D

Actually, I wasn't going to brush my teeth while I was there. Local flavor, and all.

But I was going to borrow your underwear just in case--I don't want to get mine messy after the colonic ;)

Heh.

I have $11 and full tank of gas. If I start whoring myself out now, I might just get to NY at the same time as you.

Brilliant! You're going to be there for ages. Some of those museums are on my list, as is a tour of Rockerfeller Centre to see the Art Deco stuff. I like big infrastuctural things so, weather permitting, I'd like to walk the brooklyn bridge or something like that. Otherwise, I'm mooching around record stores, book store and vintage clothes stores, that sort of thing. Oh, and funny, lurid Gay clubs are definitely on the list. I have two travelling companions, P__ and J__, who maybe aren't quite as into staying out all night as me, so it'll be good to have company for that stuff. That said, they're cool, cool people. P__ has art history exams the week we come home so she needs to hit the museums in a serious way and she would be delighed to have intelligent company, given that myself and J__ (the fangirls) will probably be outside going, "Oooh! Steam vents in the street! Cop cars! Is this where they filmed Kojak?" etc. J__'s on a mission to find some highly signifigant street corner from "The Dark Tower" and I, no doubt, will find some equally dumb fannish expedition myself. None of this stuff means anything to P__.

But yes, we are in the lap of the locals when it comes to sorting out a gathering. Get to it, ladies.

Heh. Well, it sounds like there's a nice meshing of interests. And I can be very, very charming and perhaps we can coerce your friends into lurid gay clubgoing ;)

My idea of a good time is wandering around, drinking coffee, learning a little about a neighborhood. I have no illusions I will "know" a city in anything like a deep way in only a handful of days. I believe Dana also wants to see art. I also love bookstores and record stores. While I scoff at most vacation shopping (i.e., there are Gap stores everywhere, aren't there?), the media outlets (especially the indie ones) are always worthwhile. And I need a good comic book store visit if I can fit one in.

So, yes, NYC fen: figure out what to do with us, please ;)

It sounds as if we are all in accord. I'm never an early riser if I can help it, and to do so on vacation seems sort of counter productive. *g* But, if we can hit a museum a day, drink lots of gourmet coffee, and do a little shopping in between, I'm happy.

Huzzah! I've been on far, far too many city holidays where someone goes, "Right, we're all up at 7.30 and then it's this, this and this in the morning, quick stop for lunch and then these five things in the afternoon. Oh and the blah gallery has evening opening tonight so we'll do that too. Dinner? What do you mean, dinner?". A city is not to be found inside a museum, not is it to be found in five days. I'm still enjoying learning about the city I've lived in my entire life.

A friend was in New York last week and she mailed me a list of good record stores, reasonably priced restaurants etc. in the Greenwich Village area. Do you and Shaggy know whereabouts you're staying yet?

Lenore is getting the name of somewhere nearby, but if your friend has a hotel suggestion as well?

I think she might have stayed further uptown, but I'll check in with her tomorrow and find out.

::flaps hands around in the air::

I'm on Long Island and hang out in the city all the time. I'll email you privately after connexions (when I get my head back on straight, lol) and see what we can figure out *g*

Yay! I'll be looking for it.

Have a good time at Connexions! I have always wanted to go to Baltimore (due to my love of Homicide and now The Wire), and I remember Reet had a good time at Connexions last year, but for some reason I thought it was a con for just Sentinel fans. That's not the case, though, is it? Something to keep in mind for next year, I guess...

Nope, not at all. I'm more of a DS person myself. There are a lot of HP and SH panels, but it's mostly just fans of slash - any slash - in general. This is the first time Im going but I'm excited!

I'll email you as soon as I get back. This will be fun! Yippee!

Oh, FUCK! I just said to myself, you should really double check what dates jed will be visiting. I wanted to hang out with you as much as possible, but I'm not going to be able to make it into the city until Sat. night at the earliest. GRRRRR! FUCK! I have to help out at the fucking tag sale of doom all day Friday and Saturday. It's a family obligation. FUUUCK!!!

Can we plan to have plans Monday? I should be able to hang out all day Monday.
