You can actually tell the dining room walls are painted two shades of burgundy here, which is nice. However, I could look cuter. Still, is the hair not glorious? If you like big, out-of-control hair, that is. I had Kicky blow-dry it straight for me, as I never bother to do that myself. Pretty hair makes me happy.

Perusing the hate thread, apparently I have been mean to someone, or perceived as mean. Which is too bad. I really don't try to be mean to people a good 97% of the time (yeah, I thought for a moment and corrected that figure down from 99%). If I did something to anyone with intent to harm, I am sorry, because one should apologize for the bad judgment that leads to deliberate nastiness. But if I was flaky, didn't answer a comment, didn't respond to an e-mail, stated I didn't like something that you like or that you do...then we have some differences of opinion about what is important and I am not necessarily sorry for things like that. In which case, you'll just have to keep me on your Bitch List.

You're silly. You know this already. I never, ever brush it unless I'm going out somewhere that it really matters (to me) that I be pretty. Laziness: I let it air dry and I finger-comb it like a monkey. And then I make burlesque costumes in exchange for otherwise unaffordable cut-and-color treatment.

I suggested to Kicky today that we work over the summer toward making my hair look just like Heather Locklear's...and I realized that I was only partly joking.

Well, there is that. But her hair is really blonde. And this platinum in the front...it looks fantabulous (it looks lighter than in the picture) I would have to cut it if I wanted platinum all over (as that would require care I am not inclined to give hair of any color), but it looks good.

You need me to braid your hair and that would make everything all right, even if I am exclusiony and mean.

I was flipping through some magazine that had a picture of Ms. Locklear--much blonder than me, of course, but with basically the same haircut. When mine isn't blown out straight, it's wavy and sticks out here and there. It's certainly looser than her hairstyle, but it's similar.

After years of trying every color but blonde, I am rather enamored of this extreme silver-blonde and am tempted to make my entire head this color. But then that would be boring. I am tempted by pink (I've been dark reds, but never light), but I know myself and I wouldn't keep it up. Light pink with dark roots just looks...sad.

The blonde is fake. Some of the darker color is fake, but that's mostly underneath and thus not in the photo. I have a real blonde that happens, but it is brassy and I don't like it. I'm trying to get enough blonde in it that when the red happens (which it does in the sun), there won't be this big "dye" line that's really obvious as it grows out, and is actually just due to fading. If the red is mixed in with streaks, then that's kind of pretty.

Kicky does foils, i.e., painting on the bleach solution and folding it up in a foil square, then planting me under a heat lamp for an hour or so. It would be a rather expensive proposition, except we trade: I make costumes and websites, she does pretty hair.

Thank you! And as to styling...well, I couldn't do it myself. I can put my hair up with a chopstick or pencil, and I can put it in a ponytail, but that's about it. I cannot blow dry it dry, much less straight. It's always kind of a miracle to me that it actually will go straight and smooth.

These are shot at a weird (up-nose) angle and also in the dark (don't ask), so...yeah. I don't think these are bad pictures--I never post pix I think are bad--but photos like these are probably why there was a very high proportion of people in NYC telling me that I was prettier than they expected. Or else they were just a bunch of head-swelling liars.

But you can see the nearly-white-blonde pieces really good in these ;)

you braid? my hair requires braiding in order to behave itself no matter what I think it should do. (it's sometimes longer than my back, but right now it isn't, but it still needs braiding because it just does.)

And, no, I don't braid. My hair is too thick to braid, and even though you can't tell (because it's been blown out straight), there are a zillion layers cut into it, making it even more difficult. I twist it up in a bun-like thing when it's wet, shove a chopstick through it, and when it's dry, I have Rita Hayworth waves. Which is great, because it makes it look like I did something proactively, but all I did was wait.

I too air-dry and don't brush, most of the time. I am totally copying your "dry in bun with chopstick for RIta waves" technique - my hair is a similar length and also heavily layered. I still keep forgetting I have long hair now. Yay, hair!
